candelabrum

candelabrum
[ˌkandɪˈlɑːbrəm, -ˈleɪ-]
(pl. candelabra -brə)
  1. a large branched candlestick or holder for several candles or lamps
    枝形大烛台;枝形大灯台
语源
  1. early 19th cent.: from Latin, from candela (see candle)
用法
  1. Based on the Latin forms, the correct singular is candelabrum and the correct plural is candelabra. However, these forms are often not observed in practice: the singular form is assumed to be candelabra and hence its plural is interpreted as candelabras. In nearly 50 per cent of the examples in the British National Corpus the singular is incorrectly given as candelabra
