concerto [kənˈtʃəːtəʊ, -ˈtʃɛːtəʊ] (pl. concertos 或 concerti )
a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra, especially one conceived on a relatively large scale (尤指规模较大的)协奏曲
Prefigured by the concerto grosso, the form was effectively invented by J.S. Bach in his harpsichord concertos, and further developed in the organ concertos of Handel, particular in the inclusion of a virtuosic cadenza (originally improvised but now usually written out). Mozart composed nearly fifty concertos, and contemporary classical composers continue to write them for a wide range of instruments
