1. I know not who has recently discovered that Tacitus was a declaimer, that Nero was a victim, and that pity is decidedly due to "that poor Holofernes.

2. They came and stood around her as she waited outside the tent of Holofernes, while he was being informed about her.

5. After marching for three days from Nineveh, Holofernes and his men reached the plain of Bectileth where they encamped before the city, near the mountains to the north of Upper Cilicia.

7. 11 For thirty days the whole populace plundered the camp, giving Judith the tent of Holofernes, with all his silver, his couches, his dishes, and all his furniture, which she accepted.

众百姓三十天之久，抢掠敌营。他们把敖罗斐乃的帐幕，及他所有的银器、床榻、杯盘和一切家具都给了友弟德。

8. As no one answered, he entered the room, and found Holofernes lying across the wooden footstool dead with his head cut off.

9. And the servants of Holofernes taking him, went through the plains: but when they came near the mountains, the slingers came out against them.

10. 10 1 On the fourth day Holofernes gave a banquet for his servants alone, to which he did not invite any of the officers.

11. 23 and when Holofernes and his servants beheld Judith, they all marveled at the beauty of her face. She threw herself down prostrate before him, but his servants raised her up.

12. 19 Judith dedicated, as a votive offering to God, all the things of Holofernes that the people had given her, as well as the canopy that she herself had taken from his bedroom.

13. Then Judith offered all of Holofernes' belongings which the people had given her and she dedicated to the Lord the hangings from his room which she herself had taken.

14. Meanwhile her maid went ahead and spread out on the ground for her in front of Holofernes the fleece Bagoas had furnished for her daily use in reclining at her dinner.

15. 11 At daybreak they hung the head of Holofernes on the wall. Then all the Israelite men took up their arms and went to the slopes of the mountain.

16. When the sun had risen and they had hung Holofernes' head on the rampart, all the men took their arms and went out in groups to the mountain slopes.

17. 23 And Judith offered for an anathema of oblivion all the arms of Holofernes, which the people gave her, and the canopy that she had taken away out of his chamber.

18. 6 She went to the bedpost near the head of Holofernes, and taking his sword from it,

19. So Bagoas drew back the curtain and knocked, thinking that Holofernes was sleeping with Judith.

20. Then Holofernes commanded his servants to take Achior, and to lead him to Bethulia, and to deliver him into the hands of the children of Israel.

21. 22 From there Holofernes took his whole force, the infantry, cavalry, and chariots, and marched into the mountain region.

24. Holofernes ordered his guards who were standing in the tent to seize Achior, take him to Bethulia and hand him over into the hands of the Israelites.

25. 17 Holofernes said to her, ＂Drink and be merry with us!

此时敖罗斐乃对她说：＂喝罢，大家一同欢乐！

26. 2 Judith was left alone in the tent with Holofernes, who lay prostrate on his bed, for he was sodden with wine.

此时；在帐幕内只有友弟德，和泥醉横卧在床上的敖罗斐乃。

27. Then Holofernes set out on the march with all his army, with their chariots, cavalry and picked foot soldiers going ahead of King Nebuchadnezzar to cover all the lands to the West with this army.

然后率领大军出发，作拿步高王的先锋，以战车马队和精兵，遮蔽西方的地面。

28. You must call on the Assyrians and let the whole army of Holofernes pillage us.

现今你们就叫他们进来，把全城交给敖罗斐乃的人民和大军，任凭他们抢掠。

29. The second day, Holofernes lined up all his cavalry in front of the Israelites in Bethulia.

30. When they run to the tent of Holofernes and do not find him, panic will seize them, and they will flee before you.

31. And when all the army heard that Holofernes was beheaded, courage and counsel fled from them, and being seized with trembling and fear they thought only to save themselves by flight:

32. 18 ＂The slaves have duped us! A single Hebrew woman has brought disgrace on the house of King Nebuchadnezzar. Here is Holofernes headless on the ground!
